AHHHHHHH!!!
I have been working on this behind the scenes for what feels like forever! Keeping it a secret has been SO HARD. Especially because I have been documenting this entire process along the way. I have been saving videos from before my very first publisher meeting, writing days, editing days, photo shoots, trips to the publisher, plus so many other little moments, knowing that eventually I would get to share all of them with you.
How Did This Even Happen?!
I learned to play mahjong in 2023 and pretty much immediately became obsessed. But what I fell in love with wasn't only the game; it was everything that happened around the table.
Getting the girls together. Setting a pretty table. Picking out what we were going to wear. Coming up with a theme. The snacks. The cocktails. The cute accessories. Pulling out the china that normally sits in the cabinet waiting for a "special occasion." Basically, I took my love of mahjong and my love of a themed party, and from there Troop Mahjong was born.
What started with me teaching friends and then strangers how to play mahjong, grew into open plays, leagues, Troop Mahjong Society, Troop Mahjong Chapter Leaders, Camp Troop Mahjong, Merit Stickers, tribes, themed events, and this entire colorful little world of Troop Mahjong.
And somewhere in the middle of all of that came an opportunity I never saw coming.
Meet The Mahjong Table
If you've been following Stylin Brunette for a while, then this book will feel like a conversation with me, filled with helpful tips, hostess ideas and inspiration for your next mahjong table. Mahjong might be a newer part of my story, but entertaining definitely isn't. I started my blog with the theme of vintage inspired hostess. I used to think of new purposes and functions for my vintage silver pieces in our home. I am a lover and collector of vintage china and I will ALWAYS encourage you to use your fancy pieces any day of the week.
If you don't know me, there are few things you can always count on...I always love a theme. I love setting a pretty table, and I will always believe you don't need a birthday, holiday or "special occasion" to pull out the good dishes and make something feel special. My book The Mahjong Table brings all of those concepts together to help the reader feel inspired and hopefully encouraged to add a little of the Troop Mahjong magic into her every day life.
It's mahjong, yes, but it's also entertaining, tablescapes, food, cocktails, traditions, gathering your girlfriends and finding an excuse to make an ordinary night feel a little more fabulous.
